Colombo, 12 January, ( Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has hailed the services to the nation of Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Poland, Clarence Felician Chinniah, who passed away suddenly last Thursday (8th January) in Warsaw. In a condolence message, the Minister recalled the professional manner in which the late envoy had discharged his responsibilities. He has conveyed his profound sympathy to the mother and brothers of Ambassador Chinniah, as well as other members of the bereaved family.

The full text of Minister Bogollagama’s condolence message is as follows:

"I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden and untimely demise of our Ambassador to Poland, Clarence Felician Chinniah, yesterday in Warsaw. Sri Lanka has lost a capable and dynamic Foreign Service officer, who had served the nation with distinction throughout his career.

"I became acquainted with the late Ambassador Chinniah, when I was Minister of Advanced Technology & National Enterprise Development, and earlier as Minister of Industries. There were many occasions for me to interact with him during that period, when he was our Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi. I found Ambassador Chinniah to be totally dedicated to his job and performed his duties with consummate professionalism.

"When I became Foreign Minister in late January 2007, he was holding the post of Additional Secretary in charge of Administration and Consular Affairs at the Ministry. It was with much pleasure that I recommended to President Mahinda Rajapaksa his appointment as our Ambassador to Poland, with concurrent accreditation to Bulgaria and Romania, which assignment he took up in August 2007.

On this sad occasion, I extend my sincere condolences to the mother and brothers of the late Ambassador Chinniah and other members of the bereaved family in their hour of profound grief."
