WASPUR gives Rs. 1 M. for troops' welfare

Colombo, 18 January, (Asiantribune.com): The Western Australian Society for Peace, Unity & Rehabilitation in Sri Lanka (WASPUR) Inc has made a contribution of Rs 1 Million through the organization Jayagrahanaya (Success) Colombo for the welfare of armed forces personnel.

The funds were handed over to Dr Anula Wijesundera of Success at the Army Hospital at Thimbirigasyaya on last week by Mrs Priya Barnes, President WASPUR. Success will utilize the funds to purchase various medical equipment, patient transfer trolleys, upgrading the Army Hospital and to help in the rehabilitation of disabled military personnel at Ranaviru Sevana, Ragama.

An allocation was also made for the welfare of the family of Late Colonel Lalith Jayasinghe, who was ambushed deep inside enemy lines before the liberation of Kilinochchi.

This is the second contribution by WASPUR within six months after Rs 400,000 was contributed in August 2008 for the same purpose.
