EU MP blasts British decision to appoint a special envoy to Sri Lanka

Colombo, 17 February, (Asiantribune.com): EU parliamentarian Nirj Deva [Niranjan Devaadithya] criticizes the appointment of former British Defence Secretary Des Browny as a special envoy for Sri Lanka and said it is not an official way to appoint an official . He said the British government fails to follow diplomatic ways and this step violates sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

Mr. Devadithya said that the government of Sri Lanka kept silence and in the end followed diplomatic way to reject the appointment.

Speaking to media in Colombo on Monday Mr.Deva said the British government should respect the independence of Sri Lanka if it wants to make any official approach.

Responding to a questions raised by the media in Colombo, he said all citizens of Sri Lanka and the political parties have the rights to show their displeasure against the British government.

Mr. Devadithya who was a Sri Lankan and now member of the EU said a number of international agencies and embassies located in Colombo could monitor the country situation.

It is not an acceptable solution from the British government, he said.
He said the government of Sri Lanka is eliminating terrorism very successfully.

LTTE is a ruthless terrorists’ organization which felled thousands of Sri Lankans including innocent Tamils during last 30 years. He said the international community must support the government of Sri Lanka who also protects civilians and feeding them regularly.

According to the available sources the LTTE uses civilians as a human shield to protect themselves, said Mr. Devadithya.
