Prof. Ganganath Dissanayake too was abducted in white van! - UNP

Colombo, 13 March, (Asiantribune.com): The Opposition UNP this afternoon charged that Sri Jayawardenapura Don, former Prime Ministerial Advisor and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Prof. Ganganath Dissanayake was also abducted in a white van, which it described as the typical manner in which the Government was attacking those who had dissenting opinions against it.
In this case, Prof. Dissanayake had been in Australia in his academic pursuits and arrived in Sri Lanka merely for some eye surgery and he was abducted from his home at around 8 pm yesterday, UNP Kandy District MP and former Plantations Industries Minister Lakshman Kiriella told a news conference.
He also charged that the stage of set for the attack by a scurrilous news report published in the state controlled Lake House and in the Sinhala daily- Dinamina which alleged that Prof Dissanayake was to soon release a book which had revealing evidence of the inside workings of the Government and that that news report was totally false.
Professor Dissanayake has also been told in no uncertain terms that he cannot engage in UNP politics and that he would be dealt with in no uncertain terms had he released such a book
This is a case of the Government which cannot perform and the moment these shortcomings are shown, this is the way that the Government takes on its critics, he charged and added that the primary targets were the Media, the Attorneys and academics
These resentments come at a time when the economic crisis deepens, Kiriella alleged and added that 57 journalists have been harassed, a further 11 killed and another 20 mercilessly assaulted. There were also a large number of journalists who have left the country due to fears and security threats.
He said that the UNP has asked the Government for an impartial inquiry on all these matters and issues but nothing has happened yet.
