PM Singh sends special emissary to President Rajapaksa

Chennai, 31 March (Asiantribune.com): A high level emissary of Indian Prime Minister has made a quite visit to Colombo with a personal message to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, it is reliably learnt.

There is no official word from the Indian side though the visit had taken place on March 25. Some sections billed the visit as exchange of views on "developments in the field of public administration in the two countries." The emissary T. K. A. Nair is close confidant of Prime Minister Singh as his Principal Secretary.

Officials in Colombo described Nair’s visit as a social visit at the invitation of Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka.

Given the latest reports from the Vanni front and the growing concerns in Delhi, it is possible that Nair was deputed after a very careful calibration of the scene with a special message to President Rajapaksa. However, the Lanka Foreign Ministry has rejected the conjectures.

According to sketchy details available here, TKA Nair flew into Colombo on March 25 for a two-day stay. He called on President Rajapaksa, who hosted a lunch. The Indian emissary also met senior government officials.

Before returning home, Nair, who is said to be a practising Buddhist, went to Anuradhapura and visited Sacred Buddhist temples.
