By Our Colombo Correspondent

Colombo, 19 May, (Asiantribune.com): A light aircraft of the LTTE was in the air in Iranamadu last evening, military intelligence has been informed.

"There are sources confirming that a light aircraft had been seen over Wanni for 30 minutes," an intelligence source told the Asian Tribune. However the radars of the Air Force had not intercepted the aircraft, according to military sources, Security Forces have been put on high alert to react to any illegal flights since the incident.

Defence analysts said the incident -- if it is proved true-is more a psychological operation of the LTTE which came in the wake of its airstrip near Iranamadu tank was bombed, last week after the abortive sea Tiger attack on a Navy passenger ferry, MV Pearl Cruiser II.

"You don't need an air strip to fly a light air craft. Even the A 9 road could be used an alternative passage," said a military analyst under the condition of anonymity.

The LTTE is believed to have a several two-seater micro light aircraft, which can be used in a suicide mission on a security or economic target.
