By Venerable Walpola Piyananda, Chief Sangha Nakaye of America
I wish to refresh the memory of the British. Since we got our independence in 1948, Sri Lanka has maintained a cordial relationship with them and we still work together, as a part of the commonwealth. When the former Prime Minister Mrs. Margaret Thatcher sent the military to reclaim the Falkland Islands off the coast of Argentina, the U.N. condemned the British, but Sri Lanka stood steadfastly with the U. K. The Sri Lankan government did not criticize the British government’s involvement in the Iraqi war even though they believed it was wrong.
These past few years, unfortunately, I find that the British authorities seem to have forgotten the past and lack loyalty. It is an undisputed fact that the British government has swallowed the propaganda pills of the LTTE diaspora.
It is shameful that some of the members of Parliament accept their blood money, speaking on behalf of this terrorist group. Is the government turning a blind eye to the individuals who support and help hide the terrorists and their activities; i.e. the procurement of arms; drug smuggling; destroying public property – e.g. Jawahalal Nehru’s statue; attacks on the embassies of Sri Lanka and India in the U.K.; cloning and counterfeiting credit cards at gas stations; extorting money from fellow Tamils with threats of death?
The assassination of Lakshman Kadiragama was controlled remotely from the U.K. The LTTE diaspora in the U.K. is responsible for most of the terrorist activities in Sri Lanka. It is an accepted fact that the Scots guards are the best secret police in the world. We do not believe that the LTTE organization is able to outwit them. According to the LTTE news – Tamilnet – April 10, 2009, the British police has helped the LTTE demonstrators: "In the UK where carrying the Tamil national flag is not permitted, police personal were seen advising the demonstrators to give the flags to children under 16, so that they can refrain themselves from taking action. That is the public understanding and sympathy coming even from the police personal. But when are their governments going to translate that in action is the question."
Labor MP Keith Vaz has been accused by the leading newspaper Daily Mail of "a shameless abuse of power and office. Mr. Vaz is a strong loyalist of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) a terrorist outfit fighting for a separate state in Sri Lanka, which has been proscribed as a terrorist organization in more than 30 countries. He has close association with LTTE front organizations such as British Tamil Forum, Tamil Youth Organization and Tamil Councillors Association." He seems to be on the payroll of the LTTE, as well as Edward Wavy.
The recent visit of British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner to Sri Lanka arouses my suspicions. They seemed to have a mutual agenda to disrupt the successful attempts of the Sri Lankan in defeating the terrorists. David Miliband’s statement in the House of Commons on 30th April only reveals his loyalty to the LTTE. His words were, "governments may feel frustration" is mostly uncalled for in this situation. He also stated that he regretted the fact that the Swedish Foreign Minister Mr. Carl Bildt was denied a visa to enter Sri Lanka, which is baseless. Probably Mr. Miliband thinks Sri Lanka is like the EU! We respect the British Parliamentarian, Hon. Lord Naseby who visited Sri Lanka recently and gave an unbiased opinion of the situation.
We appeal to the British government to follow Lord Naseby’s advice and act accordingly to eliminate terrorism in Sri Lanka. This will result in the strengthening of the relations between the two countries. The LTTE diaspora in the UK does not want to end the war for three main reasons:
1) If the war is over, they will not be able to get political asylum;
2) They will not be able to make money from arms deals; and
3) Money laundering, drug trafficking and ransom deals will end.
As a spiritual leader, I appeal to the British government and Prime Minister Gordon Brown not to get caught in the web of this terrorist organization.

Venerable sir
The buddhist believe in Karma , very soon the british will have to cope
wiht the lawlessness of the tamil diaspora(LTTE suporters) , once that happens the repatriation
will start.
IS SRI LANKA READY TO TAKE THESE PEOPLE KNOWING VERY WELL THEY ARE TROUBLE MAKERS.
Long Live Venerable sir! UN,
Long Live Venerable sir!
UN, USA and other Western countries DID NOTHING when LTTE was blasting bombs everywhere in Sri Lanka, Killing thousands of innocent civilians and also when LTTE was killing many Tamil and Sinhala politicians who worked against them.
UN, USA and other Western countries DID NOTHING when Israel bomb Ghaza every day killing thousands of innocent civilians.
So what about the human rights of killed people and their relatives? Is the human right organizations are there to secure the human rights of Terrorists?
US armies entered in to Iraq and conquered it, killed the democratically elected president (Saddam Hussain is a killer, no doubt about that. But on what basis US conquered Iraq??? The pure and simple answer is OIL!!!) . US soldiers brutally assaulted physically and sexually many Iraqi prisoners and the world saw how democratic they are. Finally a politically and economically stable country became a living hell thanks to the international policeman, USA.
We, Sri Lankans don’t need any foreigner to observe our humanitarian operations; the innocent Tamil people who escaped from LTTE will say the truth. Those foreigners who want to MEDIATE are the very same people who ruled our country for more than 3 centuries, brutally murdering millions of innocent people.
Lets asy "STAY AWAY FROM SRI LANKA!!!!!!"
Venerable Sir, There is much
Venerable Sir,
There is much deeper hidden agenda behind the support of the UK, US & the neo-colonist west towards EELAM & LTTE rather than a united Sri Lanka. The west is quite upset over the tilting of Sri Lankan foriegn policy specially during the Rajapaksha regime away from them. During the past several years, Sri Lanka have completely marginalized the co-chairs & Norway in favour of countries like China, Iran & Russia. Financially, Sri Lanka has got a lot of money from China & the Chinese invetments has grown very much faster during the last few years thus GOSL didnt succumb to "bullying" policies of co-chairs like the time of the UNP government. The west is also very worried about the growing influence of China in the region who are said to be looking to expand their military might in Asia. Therefore, UK & US, backed by UN who is known to be failed organization who works in favour of the west is now trying hard to recognize an EELAM so they have a freind & ally in the middle of South Asia. In this context, they are also looking to de-stabilize the growing economic power, India.
If the west thinks LTTE will
If the west thinks LTTE will be allied to them, they are in for a dissapointment. The LTTE or any Tamil controlled entity is likely to be very racially oriented and stuborn. They have proved it several times, that they cannot be trusted. Walked out of west sponsored talks, killed Rajiv G. Their association with any party is only based on shortterm tactical advantage. Only tool they have mastered is thuggery.
West is better off with dimocratic and moderate Sri Lanka who do not have a ambition to be a super power. We have not fueled fighting or sided with countries at war. They must understand that Sri Lanka values non aligned principle to the core.

This is a well-argued article by Ven. Walpola Piyananda who goes much deeper into the history which the British has deliberately forgotten for want of their naivety or influence from LTTE elements that have already overpowered the British government. It is apparent with the initiatives of the BBC LTTE flourished since it created a conducive environment with the able assistance of some British parliamentarians who might have most probably hired by the LTTE to speak on their behalf. The issue is one country, discussions, meetings, decisions are taken in another. These are the new wonders of the world in this century.
This is a quite good an
This is a quite good an analysis of the past and failed to mention the progress of the country. It still clinging to the idea of Sri Lanka is belongs to only Singhalese majority and all the Tamils are LTTE supporters. I am obliged to report that I myself worked so hard to get David to go SL as SL refused the Des Brown Peace envoy. Some of modern well established Singhalese, Tamils and Muslims Diaspora or expatriates from Sri Lanka have stayed away fro local and national politics. Simply they do not have time and money to regroup. We all do fundraise through various events, and send some money home for love one or the chosen or establish charities. That does not mean we don’t care. It is that we have prudent people elected to sort the things out back home. However, LTTE had 36 years of freedom to grow, re group and over two 3 millions pollution around the world to support. GoSL has reached to our Previous PM and seeks support and we uphold our promised. The cabinet reshuffle here and GoSL did missed communicated wit each other. That is why Tamils or LTTE supporters capitalise on. However, David Milliband is a passionate human right activist and stood up to Russia on their part of human rights abuse. He believes in GoSL and its leadership and very much supportive. He himself and most of us are here value all those civilians who got stuck middle of a war. This war has nothing to do with them. GoSL and LTTE need to have mutual arrangement or understanding of the innocents people why got stuck, and most certainly that is the Priority of President Rajapakshe and Defence Sec Gotabhya. The have reassured to us Brittan that they will do their best to rebuild the trust of the people of North. David has pledged so much more that any other governments have contributed to SL. Here he was willingness to go there, even if the GoSL snubbed him just to open a conversation with the countries most educated people. I think that there were few heated debates took place and that does not mean we in UK not committed to progress of the SL or we will throw the baby with the bath water. Presidents and his government look after our FS very well and they are happy to continue our relation ship. We are here in UK happy to listen to Tamils Diaspora view and we will not negotiate with the Terrorist groups. However some of those terrorist sit who live on most our MP’s Constituents are raising concerns on two issues that some of them live and support the dream of the ELLAM and the other worried about their love ones who got stuck middle of the war who do not know anything for last 36 years the other point we all raise that we need to see and end to violence, cruelty and see peace. Through peace and practising loving kindness only we can achieve the harmony. Remember Venerable sir that Mettha Mudidtha Karuna and Upeksha should be the only words you should be preaching not politics and hetaerism. Tamils or Singhalese thee people are all human been as elected or none elected we all have a duty of care. That duty of care can be achieved only through a dialogue. That is what David has in mind and tried his hard. He does not support Tamils or Singhalese as his constituency has not got Sri Lankan to worry about winning next election. Therefore please get your facts correct. We have moved forward from Thatcher and Blair we are in a different leadership now, Prime Minister Gordon Brown is committed to 3rd world poverty and his commitments to SL will be still stand and we all welcome that. It is vital t preserve international relations as Bandaranayke’s’ cut off us fro the world, made Singhalese as first and there is over 20 million populations we all cannot do all the government jobs. We need to follow the foot steps of Singapore, Japan etc. Industrial revolution and globalisation has taken over. It is a capitalist world and even if we win the war or not those poor Singhalese and Tamils and other minorities will be in the same position if we do not invest on those people now, so their challenge will knew that we did not sit on our back side on foreign countries and got fat, we though about them all we supported our Government and its leadership to have bilateral relationships. Managed to persuade those who really care to care for the people.
Defeat of LTTE is a defeat
Defeat of LTTE is a defeat to the armed factions of Christian Fundamentalists and that is what lies beneath the interventions by pro-Christian UK, USA and EU. Both India and Indonesia realized this and never allowed the "samaritans" to work in those countries in post-Tsunami recovery programmes. Those Christian funementalists are scared of coming to light of their so called "good deeds" in the LTTE held areas which resulted in air conditioned bunkers, ammunition factories and sophisticated weapons of mass detruction. In short the Christian Fundamentalists funded and also allowed their agents to fund the Reseach & Development component of LTTE war against the Democratically elected government of Sri Lanka.
Britain, please look after
Britain, please look after the millions of issues plagued by your country.
We will look after our terrorist issue.
The military action rescued 200,000 people, and two 48 hour cease-fires declared by the GOSL could not achieve that.
So, Britain, please use your energy to looking after your country and making it a better place. We will look after our country!
Dear Venerable Sir, I do
Dear Venerable Sir,
I do respect your right to express what you want to say. Whether these thoughts are from a clergyman or from a laity, it symbolizes the freedom of an individual in a society disregarding ethnic, religious or geographical identity of that person.
The LTTE itself and its front organisations always believed in a self-styled authority and self-defined freedom to propagate their twisted slogans and to fight for the so-called cause. It was known to people living in Sri Lanka and in the region from the very inception that this “Tamil cause” was hatched elsewhere before it has been exported to Sri Lankan soil.
We do respect the freedom of any group or an individual to fight for justice so long this commitment can be justified by its means based on moral and ethical grounds but not the other way as the Tamil Tiger terrorists do to justify the means by the goal. If Tamil Tiger terrorists and its front organisations backed by the Tamil Diaspora feel that they have every right to attack or kill anyone go against their murderous conduct and Eelam dream, what is wrong with an article written by a Buddhist Monk to bring peace to that country and to cultivate real Mettha amongst conflicting groups?
If the Tamil Diaspora, which has come forward to protect the leader of the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world (according to the FBI), it clearly indicates that these front organisations are not keen on the safety of the Tamil civilians caught up in the conflict but to work according to a global agenda. What Ven. Dr. Walpola Piyananda says is what really happened during pre and post independent eras in Sri Lanka and I do not see any reason for anyone to become panic on the issue unless that person suffers from common paranoia. Exaggerated self-importance has given birth to a large number of paranoids amongst Tamil Diaspora but the leaders of Western countries would never share this sickness with the Tamil Diaspora as these Western Hypocrites must keep their minds clear to spoil the heads of the fanatic Tamils.
Ven. Piyananda might have thought only to criticize the unethical interference of few western countries like Great Britain, France and Norway in the conflict prevailing in Sri Lanka to cut short the article. While justifying his criticism towards the hypocritical attitude of Western super powers against the genuine effort of GoSL to solve the conflict, I express my dissatisfaction to this most venerated monk for not having touched a valuable point in his article. It is the US foreign policy which has messed up world affairs during last few decades and still incapable of defining global terrorism. He could have elaborated the situation profoundly by taking the role of USA into consideration, how and why this world’s leading democracy continues with its double standards.
For me, this is not Western democracy but a state of prolonged hypocrisy.
Dr. Edward Perera
The Venerable Piyananda has
The Venerable Piyananda has explained in even tone and rational way the Truth of what is going on with regard to Sri Lanka. In the AlJazeera interview of Milliband and Kouchner after their return, when asked to comment on the "perceived duplicity" of the US and UK, both refused to answer. The unexplainable will one day be explained as the Truth comes spilling out.
In the meantime a staged photo of "damage caused by Army shelling of a makeshift hospital in the NFZ" has been given world media coverage in order to make out the Army and Govt. as going back on their assurance of not using artillery and bombs. HOWEVER, it is obvious to anyone that if the 'hospital' had been shelled causing the death of the man on the floor, how come all the bottles and cartons on the tables and shelves were still standing upright, with nothing else fallen or out of place??!!
The UNOSAT photos were also revealed without ground check for confirmation. Likewise the UN statistics leaked about the no. of civilians killed as being 6500, when no check or confirmation can be made, nor can it be ascertained who was a "cadre", and who a "civilian". The UN office in Sri Lanka is obviously trying to damage to Sri Lanka's democracy while protecting and supporting the non-state actor, world acknowledged for its villainy, the LTTE.
The Tamil diaspora are spending their time in demonstrations holding up traffic and disrupting the lives of local civilians in major cities of the world. Purporting to be aimed at rescuing the civilians, it is clear their interest is in saving the LTTE leadership. These Tamils of the diaspora should remain in their adopted countries with the good life they are making there. They are really bothered about the LTTE anyway, and not about the civilians of the North and East. These civilians will be taken care of by Sri Lanka in just the way other less able people of Sri Lanka are taken care of, with access to free education, medical care and the basic needs of life to help get them on their feet again. Sri Lanka did it after the Tsunami; it will do it again, with or without the West.
The West has misjudged the Sinhalese people. For a long time the Sinhalese have been perceived as "pushovers", too easygoing and ready to give in to any demand if harrassed enough. Mr. Chelvanayakam and his Vadukoddai gang also believed this to be true. Now all these misled people are seeing the true mettle of the Sinhalese. These generally mild and gentle people can be as steely as they come, when it comes to perpetrated injustice against them and the Sri Lankan nation. The Rajapakse Govt. has helped Sri Lankans to show their true strength with dignity.
