Pakistan fully prepared to prevent swine flu virus: minister

Islamabad, 06 May, (Asiantribune.com): Federal Minister for Health Ijaz Hussain Jhakhrani has said that Pakistan is fully alert and prepared to prevent the spread of swine flu virus in the country.

"Pakistan has stayed alert to the disease. Virus has no boundaries, we are inspecting every body that is coming from other country and trying our best to prevent it", he told Radio China.

Expressing satisfaction over the precautionary measures adopted by the country, he said Pakistan is in regular contact with World Health Organization and China for further assistance.

The minister said although so far there is no report of any HINI case in Pakistan, but a long term strategy is needed to closely monitor the virus and other global pandemics.

"Promoting public health awareness among masses is a good approach to fight pandemics," he observed.

He also highlighted the importance of health literacy besides underlining the need to include in school syllabus.

Jhakhrani said talks with China are underway for vaccine production and increased cooperation between the two countries would have significant role in tackling the virus.

It is to be mentioned here that no precautionary measures have been taken at any airports in Pakistan. No tests are conducted at airport of passengers coming from effected countries.
