Washington, (Asiantribune.com): US and UK have expressed their concern about the humanitarian crisis in Sri Lanka. Both were also alarmed by the reported civil causalities over the past few days in the safe zone. .
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UK Foreign Secretary Miliband met here today on the issue and called on all sides to end hostilities and allow for the safe evacuation of the tens of thousands of civilians trapped within the safe zone, according to the joint statement issued here today.
The statement adds that "The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam must lay down their arms and allow civilians free passage out of the conflict zone. Whereas, the government of Sri Lanka must abide by its commitment of April 27 to end major combat operations and the use of heavy weapons.
Secretary Clinton and Foreign Secretary Miliband express their appreciation for the continued efforts of the United Nations and their staff on the ground in Sri Lanka. They called on the government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers to allow a UN humanitarian team to visit the conflict zone to facilitate the safe evacuation of civilians.
They urged both sides to allow food and medical assistance to reach those trapped by fighting, cooperate with the ICRC to facilitate the evacuation of urgent medical cases, ensure the safety of aid and medical workers, and permit humanitarian access to all sites where displaced persons are being registered or being provided shelter.
Secretary Clinton and Foreign Secretary Miliband called for a political solution that reconciles all Sri Lankans, and establishes a meaningful role for Tamil and other minorities in national political life.

After ignoring Sri Lanka for nealy 30 years they have no right to ask SL goverment to dance to their tune because SL government is genuinely and tirelessly working hard to solve the problem.
Proper approach should be: Appreciate and recognise governments effort and extend their support.
When the problem is complex, and in favour of LTTE, they ignore. When the problem is about to solve, and when LTTE is in trouble, it becomes the biggest problem in the world.

Neither UK nor USA has any form of rights to impose anything to Sri Lanka on any ground. Hillary Clinton and Milliband should strive hard to get rid of the world's police role. Sri Lankans are not fools as both of you perceive. Our government knows what it should do, how it should do and when.... Therefore, it would be far better if you can avoid issuing nonsensical and mockery statements which receive nobody’s attention but disgusting feelings about the duo
It is in the inborn nature
It is in the inborn nature of the western being to colonise militarily then and ideologically now. But everywhere they went trouble and failure followed, like Mary and her lamb. Colonies before the 2nd world war (Britain), Vietnam (US), Iraq (US/UK), Afghanistan and now even Pakistan, not to mention the chaos created by the creation of Israel on Palestine land are just some examples of the problems the west has left as legacies. And they want to interfere in the affairs of Sri Lanka.
When, oh when will these western nations learn that their interference in the other countries have never brought any good to that country but misery, poverty, infighting (through divide and rule), etc, etc.
So please M/s. Miliband, Kouchner and Ms. Clinton even belatedly can you keep your snout out of this problem and allow Sri Lanka to rid the world of this scourge of the Tamil Tiger once and for all. Let the Sri Lanka army and the government protect the innocent civilians as they have done up to now (if you allow your ears to hear anything other than the tamilnet propaganda you will begin to hear some good news but as it is your ears are blocked and so cannot hear the good news coming form the war zone)
