Dhaka, 16 May (Asiantribune.com): Bangladesh elite force Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Friday morning busted a den of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh in the Dhaka city’s Monipuripara area hours after the capture of JMB's explosives expert 'Boma Mizan' from the city last night.
The discovery was followed by a confession by Mizan during primary interrogations, said Rab officials.
The elite forces recovered 35 kinds of bomb-making materials including a huge amount of plastic explosives, batteries, detonators and grenade bodies from the house.
The law enforcers also recovered a pistol from the militant’s den.
"Mizan was working as an explosives expert. He and other JMB members were making bomb and other explosives at the house to conduct militant activities. Mizan was also giving training to the militants there," Rab Director General Khandaker Hasan Mahmud said this while talking to reporter yesterday.
The elite forces earlier last night captured Mizan at Taltola in the capital city's Mirpur area.
His arrest was followed by a high drama that unfolded when a Rab team took him to his house at 61/3, Uttar Pirerbagh.
As they got on the doorstep at around 10:30pm, Mizan gave his wife Sharmin some coded instructions, and immediately afterwards a bomb went off inside.
Witnesses said the blast has blown off Sharmin's right wrist and wounded her two children--two-year-old son and a few months old girl.
The boy sustained head injuries, while the baby girl's dress bore bloodstains.
Rab rushed them all to a private clinic in Mirpur. After resisting arrest for around four hours, Mizan's wife gave in at 2:15am.
Around 100 law enforcers including some top-ranking Rab officers participated in the raid. They recovered a pistol, two bombs, two grenades, several rounds of ammunition, and bomb-making materials.
Lt Col AKM Shamsuddin, RAB-4 director, told reporters at the scene, "We can easily call this place a laboratory. We have retrieved 11 live bombs from here."
He said they also found huge quantities of bomb-making materials with which at least 1,000 bombs could be manufactured.
Since JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman and military commander Sidduiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai's era, who were executed, Mizan had been the outfit's bomb specialist, said Shamsuddin
Among others, Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner AKM Shahidul Haque, RAB additional director general Col Reza Noor Rahman Khan and other police and RAB officials have visited the bomb den.
