David Milband snubbed for his interference in the Sri Lanka’s IMF loan issue. Also his knowledge of Sri Lanka has been questioned.
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has expressed its s deep distressed over the recent media reports, where David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom have "raised doubts about whether Colombo could be trusted to use a US$ 1.9 billion loan from the IMF appropriately," points out a communiqué issued by the Economic Research Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
"For the purposes of record, the Central Bank wishes to state that during the past 25 years, the IMF has granted nine loans to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Bank has utilized all such IMF facilities very honorably in strict compliance with the terms of disbursement, and repaid such facilities without a single default. In fact, Sri Lanka has never delayed or defaulted on any loan, and consequently, has maintained an unblemished record of debt servicing.
In that context, Miliband’s alleged statement is very unfortunate and disturbing, since it casts a slur on the impeccable debt servicing record of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, as well as Sri Lanka’s deep commitment to meeting its obligations," the communiqué said.
Media reports also indicate that UK Foreign Secretary Miliband has stated that whether the Government of Sri Lanka should be "able to show that it will use any IMF money in a responsible and appropriate way", and that he "does not think that’s yet the case".
"This comment, while being unfortunate, displays lack of basic knowledge, since IMF facilities are made available only to monetary authorities/central banks for balance of payment support purposes, and hence the contention that the government would utilize IMF money does not arise," the communiqué adds.

Sri Lanka has never defaulted in any loan and whether Milliband like it or not, we will pay our loans.

If IMF goes beyond her mandate at this juncture by siding with UK Foreign Secretary Miliband, Sri Lanka will search for an alternative to manage and overcome the problems.
It is important to understand that there is no good terrorist is in Sri Lanka.
We have only terrorists that are the LTTE.
LTTE is eliminating innocent Tamils and destroying their rights. Sri Lanka will eliminate them at any cost to protect them.
Keep your good terrorist with you and let innocent Tamils to live in peacefully with us in this beautiful island.

I was following almost all his speaches about SL during the past. He does not seems to undestood the damm truth or is he deliberately ignoring. I heard he was saying some visa issue of the NGOs. I hope he wants to push the corrupt NGOs again to SL. Some short sight British cause this proble to SL from the very begining before independence and still they are trying to poke their hands to revenge the Srilankans.
Miliband, how would you gurantee the NGOs who was working in the LTTE control areas during the cease fire is genuinly doing there job for the people of SL not for LTTE, we have vast evidence in our hands about their bias.
So you should take the middle path to look everything correctly rather than taking you political career ahead sacrificing your soul to terrorist like our opposition leader. Be truth to your life and what you are doing, then you will not suffer in your future.

The response of MR was not expected by Miliband or Hillary, when he simply said no to their demands. Usually, when the western powers said stop, past leaders like Ranil simply immobilized every move. But not MR or GR. They went to the extent of reminding them that we are no longer a colony of UK. So Miliband is naturally hurt. Now he tends to attack anything Sri Lankan, no matter whether it is an IMF loan or position sought in UN. This is the nature of an immatured idiot, not of a foreign secretary of powerful UK.

IMF is a loan which means that we have to pay it back with an interest.It is not a donation.so why I do not understand going behind them and begging for this when sri lanka has other countries who could grant the same amount without teaching us human rights and conflict resolution.
IMF is the only shield for them just like praba had the human shield to hide behind.
Look for other options somewhere els,Nobody will die out of hunger if the loan was denied.

This victory for Sri Lanka have really shown us and the world, the bullies that are there. One Hillary Clinton, who having lost her quest for the Leadership and to be the woman President of US, now tries to gain media attention by bullying a small country like SRI Lanka. And then this Millband. With all the scandals that's being exposed in the British newspapers, I don't think we can expect anything more from these lunatics. Obviously they are only interested in their own gain.
