He returned to the island from Jordan after attending the G11 summit and World Economic Forum there.

A visibly moved President, no sooner he got down from the plane, knelt down, kissed the mother earth - an act of paying obeisance to motherland Sri Lanka, which was ultimately freed from the scourge of terrorism.

According to a spokesman, the reasons for the joyous celebrations were attributed to the victory of the Armed Forces marking the end of the 30 year war with the LTTE.President being welcome at the airportPresident being welcome at the airport

Several religious leaders of all denominations were at the airport to receive the President and showered blessings on him.

The victory over terrorism in Sri Lanka comes in the wake of the Indian election results where all the parties and persons who supported the LTTE were completely routed at the polls. Obtaining the blessings from the religious leadersObtaining the blessings from the religious leaders

An Army source said that Saturday night there had been several loud explosions in the bunkers where the LTTE leaders were hiding. Sunday morning there are about 200 LTTE dead bodies being cleared.

The death of Prabhakaran, the LTTE leader has still not been officially announced, but there is a strong feeling that he would have died in the final battle with the Army.

Stepping away from the Royal Palace of King Jordan and stepping on the rich soil of Sri Lanka and kneeling down to kiss Our Mathrubhumi; an act of veneration as a "Senehabara Rajaputhra" - creating history as the Leader who ultimately freed this Great Land from the scourge of terrorism.

Performance of this Royal Act, depicted and seen by the whole World originally; was none other than His Holiness Pope John Paul; stepping down from the Aircraft on His birth-Soil as the Royal Head of Catholic Church. This was witnessed for the first time by the whole World. For the second time the same scene was witnessed by the World, when the Royal Head of our Great Nation Sri Lanka. Had I had been there at this very instance, first thing I would observe and capture by my Digital instrument - be the pair of eyes our His Excellency's tear-drops touching the "Thambapani" instantly with the touch of his forehead.

By chance any of our brilliant photographers had captured this rare and remarkable opportunity; it would be the Picture of this unforgettable year!

This is Our Mathrubhume. The most awaited Golden Day soon to be declared, a commemorating worthy holiday of our Great Nation; due to the courage's of our Armed Forces.

The President has

The President has demonstrated that these are very sombre moments as Sri Lankans finally free themselves from the LTTE terror of 3 decades.

This is an independence gained at the expense of many lives; lives of Sri Lankan soldiers who bravely took on the task to rid the island of the LTTE; of the LTTE's own low level cadres and Tamil civilians who lost their lives in fighting to protect the lives of their LTTE high command.

All this due to the stupid intransigence of an insane group that thought civilians could be used to shield themselves, the hard core, while they waited in vain to be rescued by Internationals. Only the thousands of innocent civilians were expected to give their lives to preserve those of the few leaders and their families.
What kind of leadership was that?

Had the LTTE agreed to lay down arms and surrender, these civilian lives could have been saved. But the LTTE leaders stayed on in bunkers, hiding. That is the worst of it. For all the talk of fighting for the people of Tamil Eelam the leaders only thought of protecting themselves.

So, celebrate this new independence Sri Lanka must, but quietly, for these misled civilians who paid the highest price are the nation's own. On the beaches of Mullaivaikkal the images of ordinary people who were led to their death by the Eelam leaders, will haunt forever to ensure that PEACE is kept alive, reminding the LIVING to work towards keeping that PEACE and with utmost vigilance, protect and prevent the re-emergence of Terror.
