Reconciliation necessary in Sri Lanka, urges Swedish Foreign Minister

Stockholm, 18 May, (Asiantribune.com): A genuine National Swedish Foreign Minister Carl BildtSwedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildtreconciliation has been urged by Carl Bildt, Swedish Foreign Minister and one of the well respected Swedish leaders.

In a statement he said that, "Now the LTTE has been defeated, the Sri Lankan government should facilitate full and immediate access for international relief organizations and reach out to a genuine process of national reconciliation."

Swedish foreign Minister Carl Bildt in his blog insisted that tens of thousands of people are now desperately in need of immediate assistance and urged that the humanitarian catastrophe has to be avoided.

Writing in his blog, he said, "It is therefore necessary that the UN and Red Cross should be given an immediate access to the area."

Swedish Leader also pointed out, "Sri Lanka's future now hinges upon building a society for all its citizens. Therefore, genuine national reconciliation process is now more necessary than ever."

Yes, a genuine national

Yes, a genuine national reconciliation process is now necessary. But what we need is not advise. We need assistance in kind.

We do not have to give access to UN and ICRC to all areas. Clearing operations can be carried out by the armed forces. If army can save over 150,000 civilians, they can get all civilians to safety.

If Sweden wishes to extend assistance to the people of Sri Lanka, it is best to approach the GOSL through Diplomatic channels. Sri lanka has already sought assistance jointly with UN, to look after the needs of Internally Displaced.

While respecting your honest

While respecting your honest and genuine desire for rebuilding, this time Sri Lankan government should never allow any foriegner or NGO to directly involve in any humanitarian work without the close watch and monitoring of their activities by the government. Over the years and after the Sunami disaster too, we have seen how westerners used our hospitality to propagate religious cults, support terrorists and divide and destroy Sri Lanka for political agendas. We have a history of 2500 years civilisation and do not need advise or lectures from recently civilised wetern nations. We have enough intellectuals, human strength and world leaders with Tamils as well as Sinhalese who can do this work.

Well, Mr. Bildt, Its ok that

Well, Mr. Bildt, Its ok that you help the innocent civilians. But don't even think about interfering our humentarian operations by using words like "monitoring" or "Third party"!!!

No more foreigners please!.

No more foreigners please!. We have seen what the NGOs have done for the past 5 years from the time of peace talks with the huge money they have got.
Can anyone find a single construction? single project that is being made to benefit the ordinary civilians?
instead we find a large amount of earth moving equipment (used to build bunkers and military fortifications), massive concrete bunkers some 3 stories deep!, submarines!, huge generators which powered LTTE terrorist camps!.

It cannot be the case that so called International Donors didn't know at all what happened to their money. In fact Norway knowing gave money to LTTE to buy arms and ammo. This can be clearly confirmed because Norway still have close contacts with LTTE chief arm procurer KP!.

We need help from true friends!. Not NGOs who would build another LTTE.

We have been living in

We have been living in harmony for generations, before being lectured by the West, Mr Ignorant, until some of you folks started driving wedges between us for your own interests. The existence of a place for Hindu worship in most of the Buddhist temples is a monument to that noble sentiment, if you need any education in this regard - for the desendents of the fiery Vikings.

Where on earth this guy Carl

Where on earth this guy Carl Bildt show up on this conflict?

He may be replacing Norway wheasel.

I smell something unusual. I

I smell something unusual. I can't trust why he took a "U" turn and asking the UN & ICRC immediate access to the area. He may be trying some thing making GOSL fool. Beware!!!!

If he is genuine it is ok, but not sure.

Sweden can also grant

Sweden can also grant political assylum to former LTTE cadres and suicide bomber. They are in grate danger, please take them!

Isn't this the Carl Bildt

Isn't this the Carl Bildt who, just a few weeks ago, was talking about there being "consequences" for Sri Lanka, allegedly because Sri Lanka refused to issue him a visa, when in fact he did not even apply for one?

He is so ill informed about the ground situation in Sri Lanka, perhaps relying solely on LTTE propaganda, that he has written in his blog "It is therefore necessary that the UN and Red Cross should be given an immediate access to the area", when in fact not only the UN and ICRC but several other INGOs as well, have been for several weeks now, given access to the camps in which the IDPS are living temporarily.

Of course the INGOs have to work under the supervision of the GOSL, because it is the GOSL that is ultimately responsible for the safety and well-being of the inhabitants of the camps.

Having experienced the type of "aid" provided by INGOs like Norwegian People's Aid which betrayed the trust which the government reposed on it, by providing the LTTE with building materials, earth moving equipment and trucks to build earth bunds and bunkers, the government shouldn't leave any INGO working in Sri Lanka free to do whatever it chooses to.

Yes, the government should invite Carl Bildt to come to Sri Lanka, not to give advice, but to visit the IDP camps, see the conditions there for himself and offer material support to improve the conditions of the inmates there, if he finds that the facilities there are not up to the standard he expects.

Who is this gentleman? Are

Who is this gentleman? Are there parlimentary elections going to be held in Sweden?
