We need to be mindful and extend our hands in every possible way to both innocent Tamilians as well as Soldiers who sacrificed everything to be peaceful again.

Some people here question about the future of SriLanka, going forward.

I would like to point out, just 4 years ago we were about to devide this island and hand over a piece to the rebels those are dead now. Back then there were so many skeptics and the SriLankan president and his patriots were called hawks.

Today the very same people are raising the doubts and looking for how to best reap the benefits of the sacrifices made by the armed forces.

Why don't we put our faith on the president and wait?

This is the best news of the war. The poll conducted by Asian Tribune never gave weight to Prbhakaran’s cowardice to run away in an ambulance to be killed by the forces. Most thought he will take his infamous cyanide he cultured his outfit to take is his process of death. Even to shot him was on the cards. But to flea and getting killed is utter shame for a guy who got thousands of his followers to take cyanide capsule and dies. Still this morning one should read Sunday leader still coughing for the LTTE trying to portray sufferings of the Tamil people in the hands of government forces. This LTTE mouth piece never had it enough to mislead otherwise sensible people. What Lasantha Wickramathunge did in deals, these guys are now doing in the open.

The duplicity of the west was properly analysed in an article elsewhere. While preaching Pakistan not taking a firm stand on the terrorists and getting them to invade terrorist stronghold more than 800,000 people have been displaced. However, in Sri Lanka it was only collateral damage as put by Israelis when they invaded Gaza. However, Sri Lanka Army should be given the credit for their tactical manures to get most of the civilians from the clutches of LTTE out of harms way. We salute the forces, the Defence Secretary and President for their commitment, determination and skilfulness in facing the terrorists the way they did.

Some are saying why not the government allowed international agencies to the war zone. This is how America, England, France and Norway tried to sling mud at the government. However, few would dare to look back and see what these NGO, INGO and other international agencies have been doing in Tiger areas all this time. When so many lethal weapons were stockpiled in the tiger controlled area, how on earth these international agencies were silent. They did not even whisper when their aid was diverted to weapons and ammunition. Then most of the Aid and money poured by Tiger Diaspora was going to building bunkers, trenches, submarines, uniforms and other war materials, the international agencies did nothing but help tigers with more lethal knowledge of warfare. How can Sri Lankan government take any of these agencies to confidences that are eager to help the LTTE in anyway?

Then why don’t these LTTE sympathisers see how well the ordinary Tamil is looked after in their territory. While the kith and kin of Tiger leadership lead a comfortable life others did not have basic livelihood. INGOs operating in these areas did not see this disparity. LTTE did not put any of their resources for the welfare of Tamil people, but beamed through the international agencies that government is not supplying the basic need. The government got into this catch 22 situation and went on to supply all basic services, schooling, medical services and other public needs even food. Even the terrorists who are launching attacks on the government forces were fed and taken care by the government.

What ever Sunday Leader or other foul mouths say, if the average Tamil Tamils lived well in the LTTE controlled area, the government would not have had a case.

A very valid and pertinent question has been raised in this thread. Can Sri Lanka unite at last, or will we be subjected to hit and run attacks, etc. The answer lies in how quickly and adroitly Prez Rajapakse can resolve all the problems that were very well exploited by certain militant groups. Prez Rajapakse will be making a huge blunder if he simply assumes that there are no more issues to resolve. It was certain festering issues and discriminatory policies that made it possible for the Tamil militant groups to become what they became. Unless Prez Rajapakse has the foresight and statesmanship required to quickly resolve the issues that gave birth to alienation, militancy, etc., very likely problems, etc., will re-surface. Therefore, time is of the essence. And for his own good and for the good of the country, we hope Prez Rajapakse does not rely too heavily on his mostly incompetent advisors on how we should proceed to create re-conciliation, etc.

What would Erik Sollheim of Norway do? I would like to hear him say something. All those who were assasinated by Prabaharan will be watching from heaven.
