Sri Lanka government needs

Sri Lanka government needs to act swiftly to heal the wounds with the Tamil community.

Their is nothing to celebrate in this bloody war. There is no winner.

What we have right now is very hostile International community who wants GOSL to act.

The above all Tamil community too is not happy because they now have a feeling that no one is their to protect them.

The GOSL has the ball now firmly in its court.

Their is no time to waste celebrating the victory.

GOSL should act without listening to the JHU and JVP to give equal rights to the Tamil people.

Religious leaders remind the government of its obligations.

Where is Lotus coming from?

Where is Lotus coming from? The celebrations were a natural human outpouring of feelings, relief at not having to worry about security and safety of children at or on the way to school, of husbands and wives at work on on the way, etc. and there was no malice, no threats made or harm caused to Tamils. It was purely and simply celebrations - those who served milk rice did not distinguish between Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim.

But with TNA missing out on opportunities to discuss solutions at the All Party gatherings it is really not the fault of the GoSL if there are delays in finalising a solution. But before the long term solutions are aired there are more urgent needs such as de-mining the Vanni regions, separating the LTTE activists from civilians if they are to be rehabilitated, identifying the Muslims and Sinhalese who were driven out of their homes in the north and east by the LTTE, etc.

So the task is not easy or one that can be rushed with. The head of government has already expressed the desire to find a homegrown solution and this should be the way. Let India help as it has done even before but let Sri Lanka search and find her own solution.

Are the Indians the new

Are the Indians the new self-appointed 'sole representatives' of the Sri Lankan tamils?

Aren't the Sri Lankan Tamils mature enough to elect their own..?

Isn't it time that the tamils of Sri Lanka realized that those who lack self respect will never command respect from anyone else?

Or will they yet again be stupid enough to assume that an even bigger 'self-appointed' guardian of their rights would not exploit for their own purposes?

This is no longer a questions and answers time, but an answers in action time.
It is time for Sri Lankan tamil leaders to step forward and become partners in leading the country out of the darkness of racism and division into unity and dignity. By their own actions the tamiil leaders need to show that they no longer follow a 'tamil' agenda, but many agendas that benefit the whole nation and all who consider themselves Sri Lankan.

Time to step up and show what you are made of - tamil politicians. Either you have the maturity or someone else will again start telling you what you can and cannot do.

India's involvement in any

India's involvement in any possible resolution in Sri Lanka is not dissimilar to the involvement of the U.S. in the search for peace in the Middle East. The U.S. was also closely involved, for instance, in the resolution of the long drawn out conflict in Ireland. Certain people seem to be under the misguided notion that the international community is only interested in Sri Lanka. This simply is not the case. There are numerous trouble spots all over the world that continually troubles and occupies the interest of the international community.

Sri Lanka can settle her own

Sri Lanka can settle her own problems. We do not want Indian Interferance. Both Tamils and sinhalese must realise that india is not here to help us but to help herself. Sri Lankan soverignity must be protected at all cost if not we become a colony of India.

Further echoing Lotus'

Further echoing Lotus' comments, I would like to add that President Rajapaksa who is enjoying unprecedented popularity, especially among the Sinhalese masses must now consolidate political power through a parliamentary election and then submit a political proposal to establish a permanent solution to the problem. While the present window of opportunity will linger on for a while, it won't last forever and thus, the president must leverage this once-in-a-million opportunity to bring about lasting peace to the nation. [With his present popularity he can easily stump the ultra nationalists and give victory to the voices of the 99% moderate citizens.]

India more than any other nation continues to Sri Lanka's strongest friend and ally, and it is in the best intertest of both nations to evolve a solution that is first-and-foremost acceptable to the Sinhalese, Tamils, and Muslims, and secondarily ackowledged by the big neighbor.

Reding through the articles

Reding through the articles and comments provided by a few readers, I find that there are calls by Sri lankan Tamils for assistance from India, President, Sinhalese etc.

It is true that President has a role to maintain peace and security and equal rights of all citizens.

But, Sri lankan Tamils will have to put forward a crdible leadership to join the Govt in resolving issues in a peaceful setting. Some Tamil politicians already work with Govt. but, majority of Tamils should accept them as their representatives or appoint others acceptable to them.

This is the missing link.
