Chennai, 20 May, (Asiantribune.com):Decimation of the LTTE is a cause for rejoicing by the democratic patriotic people of India.
Dr. Subramanian Swamy, president of the Janata Party said in a statement ” The defeat and decimation of the LTTE by the Sri Lanka armed forces with the firm resolve of President Rajapakse, is a cause for rejoicing by democratic patriotic people of India. “
A former Union Law Minister of India, Dr. Subramanian Swamy said, “LTTE not only killed Rajiv Gandhi, but was training cadres of ULFA, Naxalites, PWG and Dravida kazhagam. It was smuggling arms and narcotics into India and petrol, diesel and medicines out of our country.”
He added that the people of Tamil Nadu have several times demonstrated that they do not want to have anything to do with the LTTE.
He categorically pointed out,” in the recent General Elections, they defeated the touts of the LTTE viz., the leaders of MDMK and PMK."
"Hence, we are pleased that President Rajapakse has accepted to address the root causes, namely, the lack of adequate human and political rights of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, said Dr. Swamy.
He also pointed out, “The President of Sri Lanka therefore must take steps to devolve powers in the Constitution to the Tamils areas in North and East Sri Lanka, to enable the residents to pursue their local economic and cultural aspirations.”

Thank you Dr. Swamy for recognizing and applauding the routing of the LTTE as well as the terror threat the LTTE held to India by its providing training and expertise to the rebel in India.
However, please be patient with Sri Lanka as it deals with the immediate problems of the quarter million Tamils people rescued from being hostage to the LTTE. Their needs are the first to be met and in a developing economy that is suffering from the aftermath of the global meltdown it is even more difficult. The people are sovereign and the right to decide is theirs as to the resolution of the problem that has some true and some concocted bases for the ethnic tensions experienced. Sri Lankans view the recent demonstrations in Tamil Nadu with concern and hope that Tamil Nadu will lay off the pressure and let Sri Lanka deal with finding a just solution that is satisfactory to all its communities.

We hope that now Dr. Swamy will do the needful to ensure the necessary input from India in order to reach an amicable political solution. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, India understandably was reluctant to get too deeply involved in the mess in Sri Lanka. We hope the current turn of events will enable India's close re-involvement in order to ensure an amicable political settlement to resolve the problems once and for all. I simply do not trust the Southern politicians to achieve what has to be achieved without the prodding necessary from the International community.
