Thileepan - LTTE leader in Trincomalee surrenders to Army

Colombo, 01 June, (Asiantribune.com): Shankar also known as ‘Thileepan’ who was in charge of LTTE terrorist operations in Trincomalee in the East of Sri Lanka has surrendered to the Sri Lanka Army, said Army spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara today (June 1).

After the defeat of the LTTE at Thoppigala, it was Shankar alias Thileepan who had been appointed by Prabhakaran as the LTTE leader for the entire East. He has surrendered to the Army in the Kallar region, where he had been hiding in the jungles of Kandalkadu. He had conducted several LTTE operations in Serunuwara and Werugal.

Shankar, who is registered in the LTTE with the identification number 1548 and is 28 years old. The Army is expecting more LTTE cadres who were in hiding with him to also surrender shortly.
