Sri Lanka will begin a new era in world relations-President Rajapaksa

Colombo, 03 June, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the nation to mark the historic victory over terrorism, a short while ago said from now Sri Lanka will begin a new phase in world relations as a sovereign state and would not allow even a shadow of division in a solution to the ethnic crisis. "my dear children sons and daughters, I am the happiest guardian, leader and father of a victorious nation", the President announced proudly.

Paying a glowing tribute the armed forces, the President said nearly 24,000 troops sacrificed their lives to free the nation while another five thousand were maimed."Let us, in our every breath remember those gallant men who sacrificed their lives to unite this country", an emotionally moved President added.

Speaking further from the historic Galle Face Green, President Rajapaksa said the world was shocked and surprised over the victory gained by defeating the most ruthless terror group in the world."These terrorists had access to ships, submarines, aircraft and most sophisticated weapons in the world', he recalled.

Flashing his memory to the three decades of terrorism of the LTTE, the Head of State recalled how the LTTE killed a Sri Lankan President and a distinguished Indian Prime Minister from the Gandhi dynasty also eliminating prominent politicians the top men of the Armed Forces including former Navy Commander, Admiral Clancy Fernando.

He noted that LTTE and terrorism was no more a great force in his country and he would ensure that the nation would stand undivided.
