Colombo, 21 May, (Asiantribune.com): On a proposal made by Macky Hashim, immediate past President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), the SAARC Chamber Academy has been organized by Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL), Euro Chambers and SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in partnership and the parties concerned have agreed to hold the Academy in Sri Lanka.

This Academy Project would be financed by the European Commission under Asia Invest II Alliance Programme and the partnership agreement was signed in February 2006. The Academy will commence its proceedings from today and would continue until 26th at Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Kandy.

The objective of the Academy would be for professional development for Senior Executives of SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Under this progrmme there would be a number of training sessions designed to offer a well-rounded education in Chamber management, in a bid to strengthen the Chamber, to widen their network and to exchange views and best practices.

Euro Chambers has launched an Academy Alumni Forum and through an interactive website, all past, present and future Academy participants would have the possibility to continue their networking activities; search for partners, exchange best practices and, present new ideas.

In this programme 28 Sri Lankans and 21 from other SAARC countries are expected to attend while there would be one participant from the United Kingdom. The current SCCI President, Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji from Bhutan is also expected to attend the Programme.
