Supreme Court agreed the President appointed Chairman and Board of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation

Colombo, 27 June, (Asiantribune.com): In a bid to strengthen the insurance sector in the country, and to streamline insurance for the benefit of citizens, President Mahinda Rajapaksa today appointed a high caliber Board of Directors to the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation that comprised top professionals in both the state and private sector.

The seven member board comprises top caliber professionals ranging from Economists, Chartered Accountants, Investment Analysts, Legal Experts, Chartered Marketers and Management Consultants to induce more vigor into the administration of the SLIC.

The names of the seven member board to the SLIC submitted to the Supreme Court by the General Treasury was agreed upon and accepted by the Bench.

Pradeepa Kariyawasam, a qualified Consultant in Business Management and Project Management was appointed as Chairman of the Corporation, to head the Board.

Kariyawasam has functioned as a Senior Management Consultant in the private sector for 12 years as CEO/GM.

He was CEO Unimo Enterprises, General Manager (Marketing), United Motors Lanka Ltd and has held a number of Marketing/Sales top positions at various private sector organizations.

The other Board members appointed today were Anura Bandara Medagoda(Attorney-at –Law,Solicitor,England and Wales). He also possesses a Masters of Laws (Kings College, London). He is also a former Senior State Counsel and a Law Lecturer.

R.A.Jayatissa is a Senior Economic and Policy Adviser and an Honors Graduate in Economics with a BA (Hons) and MA in Political Economy, Boston University, USA. Having held senior positions at the Central Bank, Jayatissa served as Deputy Secretary to the Treasury and at present he is the Senior Economic and Policy Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

Chitral Amaratunga,a partner of Dissanayake/Amaratunga Associates is a Legal Consultant. He has over 40 years experience in Civil Law, Company Secretarial work and Trade Marks and Patents.

Dr.Nalaka Godahewa, a Consultant BOI is a qualified professional with a Masters in Business Administration(Sri Lanka), PhD(Australia), BSc (Hon) in Electronics and Telecommunication, Chartered Management Accountant(UK),Chartered Marketer(UK) and Certified Management Accountant(Australia). He has held top positions as MD/CEO and Director in reputed private sector establishments. He served as the current Competent Authority SLIC. He will now assume duties as Managing Director SLIC.

Ravi Abeysuriya is a Chartered Accountant and Investment Analyst who served as MD,Amba Investment Services and Head of Compliance of Amba Investment. He is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants,UK with a MBA from Monash University, Australia. In addition, he has qualified as a Chartered Financial Analyst in USA. Abeysuriya is a renowned top administrator in the private sector as CEO/MD.

A.P Lekamge,A Senior National Coordinator, Sri Lanka Red Cross Society holds a MSc in Business Management,UK and Post Graduate from the Manchester Metropolitan University. He has served SLIC as Insurance Consultant for ten years.

The new Chairman and Board Directors will ensure a greater degree of professionalism which in turn will benefit all stakeholders.
