Tribal killed in hill district Rangamati by Army

Dhaka , 27 June, (Asian Tribune.com): Tarun Chakma was shot dead by Army during a gun fight. The incident happened 20 kilometres off the headquarters of the hill district Rangamati at Shuvolong Bazar on Friday. The security official said Tarun chakma is the member Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), student front of Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS).

United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF), an anti-peace treaty organization and have a record high conflict between UPDF and PCJSS.

The security official sources said the shootout erupted as a group of armed PCP activists led by Tarun Chakma went to Suvalong Bazar, 20 kms off the district town, to attack the local office of United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) around 11 in the morning.

The miscreants, traveling on an engine- boat, fired gunshots after being challenged by army troops. The army was alerted by the UPDF activists about the movement of PCP members.

The finally miscreants fled leaving behind their fellow dead Tarun Chakma and injured compatriots, the security official sources said

The security official sources said the navy had recovered the abandoned weapons from the bottom of the lake.

PCP activist Eline Chakma was arrested by the army officials and handed over to Rangamati police.

The local co coordinator of United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF), Shanti Deb Chakma said arrested Eline Chakma is their activist and he was running after miscreants to catch them.

Shanti Deb Chakma said we highly demand to the police to release of our activist Eline Chakma immediately.

While Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) said they donot have any member named Tarun Chakma.
