Colombo, 28 July, (Asiantribune.com): First Camellian Convent - Home for the Aged was blessed and declared open by His Grace Most Rev.Dr. Oswald Gomis, Archbishop of Colombo in Nayakakanda, Wattala.

His Grace Gomis thanked the Nayakakanda Parishioners in accommodating the Camellian Sisters help setting up the Convent and this Home will accommodate old destitute people in the Diocese. He said that the duty of the Faithful to help such good work of the Church. The Home could shelter 27 destitute old people.

He said that these Nuns – Daughters of St Camillus operate in Italy and in many parts of the world. The Nuns who are in Sri Lanka are from Kerala, India.

His Grace said that the service of Catholics by God has no bias on ethnicity, caste, race or religion as everyone in this world are sons and daughters of Our Lord the Father in Heaven. As Catholics what is important is to provide assistance to all who needed help.

His Grace Gomis said that often Christian charity is misunderstood as if they help Tamils there is the tendency of branding them as aiding the LTTE and in the same tone Tamils could misunderstand when Catholics help Sinhalese. But Christian Charity continues in the best possible equitable way regardless of barriers.

Rev.Fr. Gregory Jayantha Fernando, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, Nayakakanda also spoke and Rev Sister Merlyn conducted the ceremony and expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Mother Superior
