Former Minister killer Raja nabbed, trying to escape to Colombo

By Gopal Ethiraj, Chennai

Chennai, 08 August (Asiantribune.com): Educationist S A Raja, who was awarded double life imprisonment by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, for the murder of Aladi Aruna, former DMK Minister, was arrested today by the immigration officials at the Tiruchi international Air port, while trying to escape to Sri Lanka.

He tried to sneak out of the country using a forged passport. Only on Wednesday, the bench comprising Justices R Bhanumathi and R Mala sentenced Raja to double life imprisonment and four others for murdering Aladi Aruna (father of Ms. Poongothai Aladi Aruna, present Tamilnadu Minister) and his friend Ponraj.

Since the judgment, Raja was not sighted, and he has not surrendered on his own, and hence a red alert was sounded for his arrest. The police was searching for him in Tirunelveli.

This morning Raja came to the airport at Tiruchi and tried to board the flight bound for Colombo. The immigration officials, on verification, found that Raja was attempting to travel with a forged passport and in a different name. He was arrested and Tirunelveli police was informed.
