Thai Army Coup Leader Gen. Sonthi prmotes cronies for assisting in the power grab.

Bangkok, 08 October, ( Thai Army Chief Gen Sonthi Boonyaratkalin who on 19 September toppled the democratically elected Government led by care taker Prime Minister Thakshin Shinawatara in an bloodless coup has began to pay his gratitude to those who helped him to grab power and authority.

As an initial measure, he has promoted his cronies, 75 army officers as a reward for taking part along with him in the coup on Sept 19.

According to a report, promotions were granted to officers with the rank of senior colonel. The announcement of the promotions was made on Friday at a meeting of the army's military commanders, at the army headquarters.

Chaired by Gen Sonthi, also chairman of the Council for National Security, it was the first meeting to be held after the annual reshuffle of the armed forces top brass which was made official earlier.

Political observers revealed that this was highly an improper practice to promote Army officials in the middle of the year, just after the annual reshuffle of the armed forces.
They further added that this is what that could be expected from the coup leaders, who have scant respect for democracy, freedom, rule of law and human rights.

They also told that nepotism, cronyism will be the order of the day until army strongman stays in power.
