No special message from Prabha - Peace secretariat spoksman

By Our Colombo Correspondent

Colombo, 10 May, (Asiantribune.com): Though it was touted as that he was carrying a message from the Tiger Supremo Prabhakaran, Japanese peace envoy Yasushi Akashi, indeed, did not have a special message of any sort to the government, said a senior official of the government's peace secretariat.

"There was no special message, but there were certain concerns, that the LTTE is worried over the recent civilian killings," Deputy Chief of the Peace Secretariat, Kethish Loganathan told the "Asian Tribune."

Mr Loganathan said that the government was also worried over the recent spate of killings in Jaffna, Vavuniya and also in Avissawella adding that,"the government does not need to be reminded by the international community to act against the on going spree of violence".

Asked whether the government expected to respond to the "concerns" of the LTTE, he said, “it is no necessary, as the government has already committed itself to end violence.”

Mr Loganathan said Akashi did not come with any breakthrough to the impasse in peace process.

He said the government was still awaiting the LTTE’s response to government's seaplane offer to ferry Eastern Tiger commanders to the Wanni.
