Senior Tiger commander killed "mysteriously"

Colombo, 26 May, ( A senior commander of the Tiger guerrillas has been killed on Wednesday night under mysterious circumstances, as the Tigers buried their deputy Commander Ramanan killed by the renegade rebels loyal to former Eastern commander Karuna.

Former Special commander of Tigers Charles Anthony Brigade, Lt. Col. Veeramani was killed on Wednesday night in Kilali, Tiger controlled area according to intelligence sources and sources inside the Tiger held area confirmed the death.

Security Forces, both the Navy and Army were not involved in any operation in the said area, according to military officers in the filed.

Wanni sources while confirming the death, described the death simply with one word “accident” but failed to give the cause of the death and when, where and how he died.

According Tamil Tiger sources, “ Lt. Col. Veeramani, was a former Commander of the Charles Antony Regiment of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), and later a field commanding official, responsible for the Nagarkovil Forward Defence Line (FDL) points.

Wednesday night he succumbed to his wounds from an accidental explosion, LTTE officials in Kilinochchi said. Lt. Col. Veeramani, who recovered from earlier wounds in the battlefield, has been in charge of FDL points in Nagarkovil.”

Subramaniam Vadivel, alias Veeramani, is from 1st Unit, Pavatkulam, Vavuniya, LTTE's media official Daya master told media.

Sources in Vanni revealed that the death of Veeramani as “mysterious.” The sources further revealed that presently there exists a cutthroat competition within the high level cadres of the outfit and Veeramani might have been a prey to the infighting.
Meanwhile, the Tigers buried its former deputy military chief of Batticaloa and Amparai, “Colonel” Ramanan in an LTTE cemetery in Thandiyady, Batticaloa. Ramanan was killed by the Karuna faction on Sunday

In the meantime it was reported that a member of the Liberation Tigers was killed and a civilian driver was seriously injured when the tractor that was transporting food to LTTE'S forward defence lines (FDL) in Madu, in the Mannar region was ambushed. The ambush occurred around 9.50 p.m., Wednesday, the sources said.

According to reports Maruthalingham Sivaranjan from Mulankavil, the LTTE cadre was killed. The civilian driver was identified as Viji,26, of Kilinochchi.
