Norway should hold an inquiry into allegations against Solheim

Ontario, 01 December, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankans are waiting for credible answers from Norway on the questionable role of Erik Solheim, says Ira de Silva, Canada, in letter sent to Norway’s Prime Minister, J. Stoltenberg.

Demanding an inquiry into the allegations of funding terrorism, she pointedly asks the Norwegian Prime Minister: "What is your government intending to do? I request that you take these allegations of funding terrorism and bribery seriously and set up an inquiry immediately.

After all, Norway does not hesitate to harass the Government of Sri Lanka on much less serious allegations. You owe it to the tax payers of Norway as well as the people of Sri Lanka who are being terrorized because of the actions of your government and minister E. Solheim."

Solheim's mishandling of the peace process because of his partisan role has been highlighted by media, academics and major political parties, including the leader of TULF, V. Anandasangaree, the UN prize-winner for non-violent campaigns in war-torn Sri Lanka.

Hon. J. Stoltenberg,
Prime Minister of Norway

Dear Sir:

Claims - Norway Funding Terrorism in Sri Lanka & Erik Solheim Being Bribed to Support LTTE Terrorists

I am writing to forward to you a statement made by the former senior LTTE "commander" in the eastern province of Sri Lanka. He was the "right hand" of the LTTE leader Prabhakaran for over 18 years before breaking away from the LTTE.

These accusations/statements are credible because he was the second in command in the LTTE and was privy to the workings of the LTTE as well as present at meetings with Erik Solheim and others. In case you are not aware, I would like to inform you that there is a widely held view in Sri Lanka that Norway in general and Erik Solheim in particular is supporting LTTE terrorism in their attempt to divide Sri Lanka by force.

The breakaway LTTE leader, Karuna, in his interview to a newspaper reinforces the duplicity of the Norwegian "facilitation" and of Erik. Solheim's support for the terrorist organization called the LTTE. What is particularly disturbing is that not only is the Norwegian government funding terrorism in Sri Lanka but that Solheim is taking bribes from the LTTE to do their bidding as well as "bribing" the LTTE leader.

The following are "highlights" of the statement made by Karuna who was privy to Norway's dealings with the LTTE and Solheim's actions. Please consider the following:

(1) Erik Solheim's house in Norway was bought with money donated by the Tigers;

(2) Solheim always told Prabhakaran in Karuna's presence that the Norwegians were with the Tigers;

(3) Solheim gifted a 6ft TV screen to Prabhakaran, a TV addict, despite the former Deptuy Minister, Vida Helgessen objecting to it;

(4) Solheim showed them military bases and donated transmitters;

(5) Solheim advised Prabhakaran how to govern - i.e how to run his military outfit;

(6) Solheim gave 16 million kroners to Anton Balasingham immediately after the signing of Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) in Oslo; Note: Karuna was an eye-witness to this transaction.

(7) the Tigers bought arms and ammunition with that money and unloaded ammunitions 40 days after the CFA was signed. "We unloaded shipments against the CFA," said Karuna.

The people of Sri Lanka look to you for answers. Norway it is claimed is funding terrorism in Sri Lanka and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians. I would like to point out that those who provide the guns are as responsible for the murders committed as those who commit the murders, assassinations, suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism.

Furthermore, according to Karuna, Solheim is taking bribes. What is your government intending to do? I request that you take these allegations of funding terrorism and bribery seriously and set up an inquiry immediately. After all, Norway does not hesitate to harass the Government of Sri Lanka on much less serious allegations. You owe it to the tax payers of Norway as well as the people of Sri Lanka who are being terrorized because of the actions of your government and minister E. Solheim

Yours truly,

Ira de Silva
