Diplomatic travel arrangement a ‘must’ for LTTE to participate in the Talks in Oslo

Colombo, 02 June, (Asiantribune.com): Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam has tentatively agreed to participate in the forthcoming talks proposed to be held in Oslo, Norway. The talks are scheduled to be held on the 8th and the 9th of June. S.P. Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Division of the LTTE while speaking to the media revealed their position after a meeting with the Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Wolf Hendrickson.

Monitoring Mission Head Wolf Hendrickson confirmed the LTTE’s participation in Oslo talks and added that he had visited Kilinochchi to discuss the arrangements for the talks.

"The meeting in Oslo will pave the way for further mutual understanding between the parties." said the Head of SLMM.

Maj. Gen. Ulf Hendrickson attended the discussions in Vanni after concluding a 3-day familiarization visit to LTTE controlled areas and visiting the key institutions of LTTE's administrative structure.

According to reports, LTTE has agreed, in principle, to participate in discussions in Oslo this month with the Norwegian facilitator responsible for coordinating and facilitating the Scandinavian truce monitoring mission, the SLMM.

Tamilselven told the media that the preparations of the talks are already underway. "Members of the Tamil Tiger delegation for Oslo will be announced within the next two days." Head of the LTTE’s Political Wing told the media.

"The timely participation is dependent on travel arrangements with diplomatic privileges being made available to the LTTE delegation through Sri Lanka's territory," LTTE Political Head told media in Kilinochchi.

Tamilselvan has insisted the Norwegian facilitators to make VIP travel arrangement for the LTTE delegation with diplomatic privileges through Sri Lanka Government controlled territory.
He added the participation of the LTTE delegation depends upon acceptable travel arrangement that ensures security and avoids harassment of LTTE delegation by Sri Lanka authorities at any given time at the Sri Lankan airport.
