By Vandana Jayasinghe - Asian Tribune

Colombo, 11 January, (Asiantribune.com): The political parties met at the All Party Representative Committee yesterday welcomed the proposals presented by APRC Chairman Prof. Tissa Vitharana and will continue the dialogue on power devolution
based on these fresh proposals.

Prof. Vitharana prepared the proposals based not on his own views but giving priorty to proposals submitted by the expert committee.

At yesterday's meeting Prof. Vitharana presented the proposals at the meeting where there were all the political parties except the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna, which withdrew its participation last year.

All the political parties including United National Party (UNP) took
part in the meeting and agreed to continue their discussions in future based on the devolution proposals submitted by Prof. Vitharana. The political parties will submit their individual views after studying the new proposals submitted by APRC Chairman.

The UNP, for the first time, shared the views on power devolution at yesterdays' APRC meeting, where former Minister K.N. Choksy outlined the UNP's view on devolution of power. The former Constitutional Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris also represented the UNP at the meeting.
