Tiger gunman shot policeman guarding truce monitors

Colombo, 07 June, (Asiantribune.com): Tiger guerrilla gunmen shot a policeman providing security to the local office of the Scandinavian truce monitors in the Northern town of Vavuniya evening in the eve of a meeting on the security of ceasefire monitors scheduled for tomorrow in Oslo.

An LTTE gunman shot the police constable who was providing security to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Office in Vavuniya, seriously injuring him, military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe told the Asian Tribune.

In another incident, Yesterday evening at 7.15 PM, Tiger guerrillas lobbed a hand grenade at soldiers near Stadium junction, Mannar.

Three soldiers were injured and admitted to Vavuniya Hospital. Meanwhile Navy last night arrested 38 Sri Lankan refugees fleeing to South India in the seas off Mannar.

They had been handed over to the Mannar GA, Brigadier Samarasinghe said.
