Roads in Sri Lanka doubles the life span to 30 years using Polymer modified Bitumen by Bitumix

Bitumix (Pvt) Ltd a major supplier of bitumen for the road builders in Sri Lanka for the last nearly 10 years are on the verge of introducing to the market 'Polymer modified Bitumen' to the Sri Lankan roads which would last for 30 years which would be double the period of 15 years - the conventional type that is now used.

Bitumix moved to the Homagama Templeburg Industrial Park to occupy their new factory and office complex, in addition to their factory in Kalagedihena and storage terminal in Medawachchiya. The new factory would enhance their production capacity and would be able to supply their manufacture more efficiently.

Bitumix is the only private sector bitumen manufacturer in Sri Lanka to equip with the ISO certification and in addition produce products used in road construction; industrial and civil construction products.

To mark the moving to the additional new factory premises a ceremony was held followed by a press briefing. At the press briefing Ashoka Siriwardena, Managing Director, Bitumix said that they had extensive experiments on the new product and the experiments have found that while the conventional type is not durable, it is also prone to accidents and is not compatible with rainy weather conditions and the global warming the impact of which is now experienced in Sri Lanka.

Mr. Siriwardena said that in other developed countries the new version of bitumen is successfully used and prove that it is less prone to accidents, apart from its advantage of extended durability which would result in cutting down the maintenance cost considerably .He said that they are on the job in collaboration with a prestigious overseas technology provider and soon 'Polymer modified Bitumen' will be offered to Road Development Authority of Sri Lanka".

Bitumix set up in 2000 manufactured bitumen based products for the road construction industry and over the years, the Company has diversified it's product portfolio into a spectrum of Bitumen based products ranging from Emulsified, Cutback, Oxidized bitumen and many other derivative products in the form of coatings, fillers, sealants and primers. In addition Bitumix is also an authorized distributor for the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
