Sri Lankan Security Forces on a "limited Coordinate assault"—Govt Defence Affairs Spokesman - Air Force bombs LTTE airstrip

By Our Colombo Correspondent

Colombo, 12 May, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankan defence officials described security operations staged yesterday against the rebel outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), as “limited and coordinated” and were aimed to deter further LTTE’s attacks on the Sri Lanka Security Forces.

“The Security Forces have launched limited and coordinated strikes on the identified LTTE targets to deter further attacks on the Security Forces,” Defence Affairs Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rabukwella said.

The Minister declined to comment how long they will continue, but stressed a coordinated assault was made necessary by the sinking of two Navy gunboats by the sea Tigers this evening.

“Operations will continue till the objective is achieved,” he said.

Defence sources said Israeli built Kafir fighter jets have bombed the LTTE airstrip in Iranamadu.

Security forces are now bombarding identified LTTE targets in the Wanni and in the East.
