U.S. Designates Foreign Terrorist Organizations

Washington, D.C. 02 May (Asiantribune.com): The U.S. Department of State designated the following 42 groups as “Foreign Terrorist Organizations” in its Country Reports on Terrorism 2006, released April 30. Liberation Tigers of tamil Eelam, Sri lanka’s separatist Tamil outfit continues to remain as a terrorist organization. The report has designated an additional 43 organizations as “Groups of Concern.” It is revealed thaqt the purpose of the list is to identify and isolate groups by encouraging U.S. friends and allies to deter its citizens from supporting them. Individuals representing these groups can be blocked from admission into the United States, are barred from doing business in the country, and U.S. residents are prohibited from providing them material support.

The purpose of the list is to identify and isolate groups by encouraging U.S. friends and allies to deter its citizens from supporting them.
