Sri Lanka Presidential Advisory Committee Lacks Tamil specialists

Mahinda Rajapakse appointed a Presidential Advisory Committee minus Tamil experts. Mahinda Rajapakse appointed a Presidential Advisory Committee minus Tamil experts. Colombo, 14 June, (Asiantribune.com): Even the very outset of the move to find lasting solutions to the ethnic conflict has failed to win the hearts and minds of the Tamil community in Sri Lanka. It has been pointed out that by appointing a majority of the Presidential Advisory Committee members - 11 out of 12 belonging to the Sinhala speaking ethnic group, reflects a calculated move that the whole exercise is a forerunner for imposing a Sinhalese solution to the Tamil issues and would not be an acceptable solution to all the ethnic groups in the country.

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa has appointed a committee to serve in an advisory capacity to the committee of representatives, from all parties to be appointed to work out the formalities for a lasting solution to the ethnic conflict, without any Tamil members in it.

In the absence of Tamil National Alliance Party’ participation in the All Party Conference, serious thoughts should have been given to have Tamil members in the Advisory Committee who might be able to provide the right advises by bringing to the notice the aspirations of the Tamil ethnic group which could lead the All Party Conference to arrive at some pragmatic conclusions.

This Advisory Committee comprises 12 members selected from various fields of discipline, a release from the President's Office said.
These appointments have been done in pursuance of a decision taken at the fifth All Party Conference held on June 2.

The members of the advisory committee are:

H. L. de Silva, PC, Faisz Mustapha PC,

R. K. W. Gunasekera, Attorney-at-Law,

Gomin Dayasiri, Attorney-at-Law,

Dr. Sivaji Felix, Constitutional Law Expert,

T. R. Perera, PC, Legal Draftsman, Legal Draftsman's Department,

Dr. Rohan Perera, PC, Legal Advisor, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

Jayampathy Wickremaratne, PC,

Asoka Gunewardane, Chairman, Finance Commission,

K. H. J. Wijayadasa,

Dharmasiri Pieris and

Malkanthi Wickremasinghe, Secretary/Ministry of Constitutional Affairs (Convenor).
