Home guard and Tiger guerrilla killed in fresh violence

Colombo, 15 June, (Asiantribune.com): One home guard and a Tiger guerrilla were killed and one soldier injured in a spat of low-level violence in the volatile Northeast.

A home guard was killed in Kebetigollewa, South of Vavuniya when he went to jungle to collect beehives. The deceased was in the company of two other home guards who escaped the assassins and report to police of the killing.

Home guards said the suspected LTTE cadres fired at them indiscriminately in the middle of jungle.

In another incident, one Tiger guerrilla who infiltrated the security forces Forward Defence line in Eluthumaduwal, Jaffna was killed early morning yesterday, when he was caught in a booby-trap at 3.40 am on Monday.

The LTTE cadre had infiltrated the Forward Defence line on a reconnaissance mission, but was caught in a booby-trap set up by the security forces, said a military official.

Ceasefire monitors have visited the scene and the body is expected to be transported to the LTTE through the SLMM.

In another incident army road patrol came under the fire of LTTE gunmen on Monday morning at around 11.am.

A soldier was injured, an officer of the army media unit said.
