Makkal TV clarifies it is not related to PMK, says tie up with Tharisanam is a distribution arrangement

Chennai, 23 May, ( Responding to our news item on Europe's second Tamil pay TV channel, and its redistribution of Makkal TV programmes, the promoters of Makkal TV have clarified that their network has no connection with PMK founded by Dr. Ramadoss.

"Dr. Ramadoss, founder of PMK is not the proprietor of Makkal TV as alleged but it has been promoted by a Limited company, namely Makkal Tholai Thodarbu Kuzhamam", a communication received by Asian Tribune said.

"The political activities of Dr. Ramadoss and the PMK cannot be clubbed or compared with the activities and the programmes of Makkal TV", the statement pointed out. Its point is "PMK is a political party. The stand taken by the party is its prerogative" and therefore Makkal TV has nothing to do with them.

In order to reach the Tamil population Makkal TV is making all efforts to associate with distributors throughout the world to broadcast their programmes and Tharisanam TV, is one of the many distributors, the statement said. It added that Tharisanam TV is from Australia based Synergy Media Group and that it is also telecasting the programmes of Jaya TV and Vijay TV.

Pointing out that a 'proper legal agreement' is in place for the tie up between Makkal TV and Tharisanam TV, the statement said Makkal is prepared to give distribution rights of the Channel in Sri Lanka as well 'if Sri Lankan government is prepared to telecast (the programmes on its channels.

On the nature of Makkal- Tharishanam arrangement, it is stated that the tie up is only to re-telecast the Makkal TV programmes simultaneously. "Programmes produced and brought on air by Tharishanam TV will not have any connection with Makkal TV programmes and there is a separate clause in the agreement that the logo of Makkal TV shall be displayed throughout the telecast of Makkal TV programmes" which are "within the parameters of the laws of Government of India".
