58 bus passengers killed in the LTTE’s claymore mine attack: SL Air Force bombed the LTTE controlled Mullativu area

Colombo, 15 June, ( Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam as usual has come up with a strongly worded denial for the international consumption, that they were not involved in the claymore mine attacks on a Sri Lanka Government owned Ceylon Transport Board passenger bus carrying nearly 100 passengers at Vuharahalmillewa, Kongolwewa, located near Kebitigollawe today at about 7.45 a.m killing 58 passengers including 8 children and injuring over 45.

In the meantime according to a report, Two Kfir bombers of the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) began bombing Liberation Tigers controlled Mullaitivu and its suburbs today noon. LTTE Peace Secretariat in its statement has reported “SL Air Force bombed the LTTE controlled Mullativu area immediately after the above Claymore attack.”

Furthermore, LTTE’s Trincomalee Political Head, S. Elilan, said Sampoor and Muttur East areas in LTTE controlled Trincomalee were being attacked with multibarrel artillery fire.

The Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella denouncing this brutal attack on innocent civilians said that the government would take immediate measures to make the international community fully aware about this serious crime against humanity.

Reports reveal that the powerful explosion had thrown the bus off the road to a distance of about 20 meters.

It is feared that some passengers may be still trapped under the bus.

A total of 25 bodies have been sent to the Kebitigollawe hospital.

The passengers included school children, men and women of all ages on their way to town.

Rescue operations are underway.

The LTTE peace Secretariat while disowning responsibility for the Claymore mine attack alleged in its statement as follows:

”The claymore attack on a civilian bus in Kebitigollawe, 23 km from Vavuniya that has killed more than 40 civilians and injured scores more is a mindless use of civilian life for political end.

“The GoSL operated forces is continuing to take civilian life with total impunity in the Northeast. Since Geneva talks in February 250 civilians including 24 children have been murdered by GoSL operative forces in the Northeast. It has now spread its tactic of using civilian life for political end beyond the Northeast.

“The attack in Kebitigollawe timed to occur immediately after the arrival of the LTTE delegation from Europe is a reprehensible act of murders with the sole aim of blaming the LTTE for the attack.

Not only that the SL Air Force bombed the LTTE controlled Mullativu area immediately after the above Claymore attack.

Further information about the damages is awaited. The GoSL is going to justify the air attack as retaliation for the claymore attack which was also in fact carried out by them.

LTTE condemns this attack on the civilian bus. Directly targeting civilians, as the Kebitigollawe claymore attack has, cannot be justified under any circumstances.

In the meantime Lanka Truth in its report alleged that “This terrorist act occurred on the day the Tamil Tiger group headed by Thamil Selvan returned to the island from Norway last morning (14).
