Sri Lanka Army to hand over first report on its LLRC recommendations
Today, Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya will hand over to the Secretary Defence Mr.Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the report submitted by the Board of Officers to study the LLRC report This will take place this morning at the Ministry of Defence.
The Army will hand over its first report in response to observations and recommendations made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) with regards to the SL Army.
The LLRC in its Final Report has made a number of recommendations with regard to the institutional, administrative and legislative measures that need to be taken in order to prevent any recurrence of terrorism and to promote national unity and reconciliation among all communities.
Taking note of the recommendations made by the LLRC, the Army Commander appointed a Board of officers to study the LLRC report and to identity areas that are relevant to the Army. The Board of officers was also tasked to formulate a viable Action Plan to address the specific areas so identified.
The Board has at the very outset observed that most of the recommendations made by the LLRC such as re - settlement of IDPs, rehabilitation of ex LTTE cadres, disarming of militant groups, de-mining, etc have already been implemented.
The board has also made very valuable observations and made recommendations for short, medium and long term implementation in our journey towards peace and reconciliation.
