Sri Lanka suspended the release of Kamal Hassans 'Viswaroopam '– Tamil Movie
Sri Lanka Government has suspended the screening of the Indian Tamil language film ‘Vishwaroopam’, produced and directed by Indian Actor Kamal Hassan, who also played the lead role in the film.
The film was scheduled to be released today - the birth of Holy Prophet Mohammed - Milad-Un-Nabi day, and it was also to be released worldwide today.
Cabinet spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the screening of the Indian film, 'Vishwaroopam', directed by Indian actor Kamal Hassan who plays its lead role has been suspended.
The spokesman said the suspension was in lieu of the films potentially damaging nature to racial harmony in the country.
Earlier, In Tamil Nadu, India too, the release of Kamal Haasan's latest film 'Viswaroopam' scheduled for today was already suspended for two weeks.
Muslim outfits in the Federation of Islamic Movements and Political Parties had demanded a pre-release screening of the film, alleging that it portrayed Muslims as terrorists.
Kamal Haasan had rejected the charge, but arranged screening to leaders of the community.
After watching the film, the leaders reiterated that it showed Muslims as terrorists.
