Government’s priority is to improve infrastructure facilities in North and East - Maj. Gen. S.W.L. Daulagala

Kuala Lumpur, 07 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Maj. Gen. S.W.L. Daulagala, Acting High Commissioner addressing Sri Lankan expatriate community at the Independence Day celebrations held at the Chancery premises on 4 th February 2013 stated that the “Government has given the utmost priority to improve basic facilities and infrastructure in the Northern and Eastern provinces”.

Sri Lanka High Commission in Kuala Lumpur organized this year’s Independence Day in a grand scale.

The Official flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Chancery premises with the participation of religious dignitaries and large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriate community living in Malaysia.

Maj. Gen. Daulagala further speaking on the occasion said the High Commission continued to maintain its position as the core institution for time tested and friendly relations with the government of Malaysia.

He added that Sri Lanka valued very much the assistance and understanding we entertained through bilateral relations. He also mentioned that the defence relations between two countries has enhanced steadily with several high level visits, defence seminars, and continued training of Sri Lankan and Malaysian Defence personnel in each other’s countries.

The Acting High Commissioner thanked the expatriate Sri Lankan Community in Malaysia for the unstinting support extended to the High Commission.

The High Commission also organized a reception to mark the Independence Day at the Intercontinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur in the evening of 4 th February with the participation of Diplomatic Corp in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Government officials and Trade Chambers. Dato’ Jacob Dungau Sagan, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia attended the event representing the Malaysian Government as the Chief Guest. A colourful traditional dance performance by Sri Lanka Army cultural troupe enthralled the gathering.

A special memento from Sri Lanka was gifted the Chief Guest by the Acting High Commissioner during the event.
