Celebrations held in Bangkok to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Independence

Bangkok, 13 February, (Asiantribune.com):

A simple but special ceremony was held at the official residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand with the participation of majority of Sri Lankan residing in Thailand to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of Independence.

The National flag was hoisted by General Shantha Kottegoda, Ambassador, at 8.30 a.m. to the sounds of ‘Magul Bera’ by traditional drummers, followed by singing of the National Anthem by all those present.

A two minutes silence was observed in memory of our national heroes who made the supreme sacrifice to safeguard our motherland. On conclusion of religious observances, the Ambassador delivered a speech highlighting the importance of all Sri Lankans to work together with unity, peace and harmony to build a happy and prosperous nation. The messages of President, Prime Minister and Minister of External Affairs were read.

All the guests were entertained to a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast comprising of milk rice, kevum, kokis and athirasa.

In the evening of 4th February 2013, a grand reception was held at the Sheraton Grande Hotel to celebrate the Independence Day. This event was well attended by the diplomatic Corp, Thai government officials, members of the Sri Lankan Community and Thai nationals.
