Konyak student, civil organization leaders not allowed to meet Rahul

Kohima, 16 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Leaders of Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Students Union (KSU) and Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) (Konyak Women Organization) have been allegedly denied to receive AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Mon Helipad on Thursday.

The AICC Vice President came to Mon and then later to Tuensang on Thursday and addressed election rallies there for the Congress candidates in the ENPO areas in particular and State in general.

It was reported that leaders of KU, KSU and KNSK sought appointment with the visiting AICC leader and also to give a tradition welcome to him while landing at Mon Helipad. But all their requests were allegedly turned down.

“We (leaders of KU, KSU and KNSK) planned to receive Rahul Gandhi at Mon Helipad not as a political party members but as a citizens of the Mon district because he came to our soil,” Methna Konyak, KSU President told NEPS over phone Friday. “It is our custom to receive any leader coming to our place.”

“But we were greatly disappointed as we were not allowed to show him our traditional welcoming while landing to our soil,” the KSU rued.

He also said they even sought appointment with him by approaching the party people and the concerned authority, but this was also turned down.
