Sunday Leader Journalist Faraz Shaukarally shot

Colombo, 16 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Sunday Leader journalist Faraz Shaukarally has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after he was shot by unknown men at his home in Hotel Road, Mount Lavinia last night.

It was reported that the shooting had occurred at around midnight yesterday (Friday) at his home, and the journalist was reportedly shot in the neck.

Shaukarally was rushed to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital following the incident and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

According to a press report, the editor of the Sunday Leader, Sakunthala Perera, said Saturday that Faraz Shaukarally was wounded Friday night by three gunmen who stormed into his home in Mt. Lavinia on the outskirts of the capital, Colombo.

In the meantime, according to President’s Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake , President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct an immediate investigation into the shooting of the journalist Faraz Shaukarally. Police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said an investigation was underway.
