Douglas Devananda declared opened 216 temporary market shops at Kilinochchi

Colombo, 17 February, (Asiantribune.com):

Minister of Traditional Industries & Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda declared opened on Thursday (14 February) at Kilinochchi, 216 temporary market shops, constructed at the cost Rs. 16 millions.

Governor of Northern Province G A Chandrasiri participated as chief guests and declared open the outlets along with Minister Douglas Devananda. Parliamentarian M.Chandrakumar graced the event as special guest.

Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasri participating in the temporary shops opening ceremony said, on the direction and guidance of Minister Douglas Devananda Kilinochchi will soon be a Dedicated Economic Centre -DEC.

The consumers and farmers in the district will get benefits through this Market Complex. In order to develop the region, Provincial Council has allocated 260 million rupees to construct this market complex with the grate plan.

Thus, after completion of Rs.57 million construction works, a part of the building complex had been declared opened by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa a few months ago. At this stage, further 16 million rupees was spent for the construction of these temporary outlets.

In his address, Governor said that under the direction of Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando and under the guidance of Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Kilinochchi city will be transferred as a major trade economic development point (Dedicated Economic Centre -DEC) . The works will commence within next two months. He also pointed out the farmers, merchants and people of Kilinochchi will get numerous benefits through this.

Speaking at the ceremony Minister Douglas Devananda said that he was involved in making use of all available opportunities for the welfare of our people and assured that the temporary shops will be allocated without showing any partiality.

He further assured that his bounden duty is to redeem those people who were seriously affected by the past war and conflict and make them to lead a normal and peaceful life.

Deputy Chairman of the Committees Parliamentarian Murugesu Chanthirakumar also addressed the gathering.

Government Agent of Kilincochi Roobavathy Ketheeswaran, Secretary of Provincial Local Government Ministry R.Varatheeswaran, Commissioner of Local Government M.Jegu and Divisional Secretary of Karachchi DS Office S.Nageswaran also participated at the meeting.
