Brief Overview of Ambassador Raja Edirisuriya

Sri Lankas Ambassador designate to Brazil Mr. Raja A. Edirisuriya assumed duties on 12 March 2013 at a simple ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Brazil with the participation of Sri Lankans living in Brasilia city.

Mr. Raja Edirisuriya is a highly educated and an exceptionally talented Civil Engineer known both nationally and internationally. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University School of Engineering and also MPA from the University of La Verne in California.

He is a Professionally Registered Engineer in the State of California and held the prestigious position as the Administrator and the City Engineer for almost 16 years with the City of Chino, California.

In early 2006, when he was offered chairmanship of the then ailing construction giant State Engineering Corporation by Sri Lanka’s President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse, Mr. Edirisuriya accepted it. With the employee base of five thousand employees, the Corporation needed a strong leadership, vision, and courage to improve the State run ailing giant.

Mr. Edirisuriya, with his sheer dedication and commitment along with the supporting staff, was able to resurrect this organization to a reasonable level within a short period of 9 months. Since 1981, the cooperation has never made any profit, but at the end of financial year 2006 there was a profit of 103 million.

Subsequently, he accepted a Chairman position for Mihin Airlines and is responsible for getting Mihin launched again.

Mr. Edirisuriya is the President of Suriya Land Development Inc., The Corporation under the direction of Mr. Edirisuriya, is Master Planning and designing of One hundred acres of land in City of Victorville, California for residential and industrial use. Currently, there is a 70-lot 23 acres subdivision is for sale that owned by Mr. Edirisuriya and is under sale contract with Lee and Associates.

Mr. Edirisuriya is also the CEO of KRMS Management, which operates and manages real estate properties own by him in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Additionally, he is the CEO for Suriya Legacy and Suriya Management that oversees 100,000 sq. ft of property in Dallas, Texas.

Mr. Edirisuriya is a philanthropist and his enduring work and efforts to the Sri Lankan community in Los Angeles to improve the quality of life worth mentioning. He is the president of Vision Foundation, which gives elderly Sri Lankan citizens the opportunity to receive free cataract surgeries.

The Edirisuriya Foundation is also providing scholarships for the needy children in Sri Lanka. Mr. Edirisuriya is responsible for the Sri Lanka Tsunami Project in building 39 homes for the Tsunami victims in the southern city of Induruwa in Sri Lanka.
