Felicitation Screening Of Oba Nathuwa Oba Ekka

Paris, 07 April, (Asiantribune.com):

« Oba Nathuwa, Oba Ekka » (English Title - “With You, Without You ” – Tamil title – “Pirangu” ) film by award winning producer Prasanna Vithanage, was screened at the Musée Gumet Auditorium on the 3rd April 2013 as part of a three day “Vesoul Festival in Paris.”

Chargée d’Affaires – a.i. Ms. W.S. Perera, Mrs. Kisagothami Sarachchandra, First Secretary - Cultural Affairs and other members of the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in France were present at this cross- cultural event.

The special projection, attended by a large number of French film enthusiasts and members of the Sri Lankan and international community residing in Paris, was also graced by the presence of Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Netherlands to UNESCO H. E. Mr Robert Zeldenrust, representatives of the Permanent Delegations of Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines and the Dominican Republic to UNESCO in addition to representatives of the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.

“Oba Nathuwa, Oba Ekka ” was awarded the Cyclo d’Or 2013 and the NETPAC Jury Prize at the 19th International Festival of Asian Cinemas in Vesoul in February 2013. Director Prasanna Vithanage’s 7th feature bilingual film ( Sinhala/ Tamil) set in post war Sri Lanka, is an adaptation of Fyodor Dosteyevski’s novella “A Gentle Creature a.k.a. Meek One”.

Musée Guimet, one the world’s most renowned Museums of Asian Art, currently hosts a 14th century Bronze Statue of the Lord Buddha in meditation belonging to Sri Lanka. A similar projection of award winning films was screened last year featuring “Nikini Vessa” by Aruna Jayawardana. In the Museum’s mission to promote Asian art and culture in France and in the world, this year’s projection marked another milestone in Franco- Sri Lankan cultural ties and France’s continuous interest in Sri Lanka’s rich culture.

Following this special screening was an interactive discussion session with the audience and Director Prasanna Vithanage and Co- Producer Lasantha NawarathnaLasantha Nawaratna. The French audience was captivated by the scenic beauty of Sri Lanka’s hill country and mostly touched by the attempt made, by the film’s thematic production, at a post-war reconciliation between the existing communities on the island. The Embassy of Sri Lanka in France and Prasanna Vithanage thanked the Expert Coordinating team at the Musée Guimet led by Mr. Hubert Laot for facilitating this special projection and appreciated their valued assistance in the French translation of the film.
