In China - Earthquake kills 32 people, Injures more than 600

Beijing, 20 April, (Asiantribune.com):

The quake struck China's Sichuan province provinces left at least 32 people dead and injured more than 600, just after 8:00am (local time) at a depth of 12 kilometres, sending panicked residents fleeing into the streets, and was followed by several aftershocks.

The quake, which struck shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday, was measured at magnitude-7 by China’s seismological bureau and at 6.6 by the U.S. Geological Survey.

It struck near the area where a devastating quake left 90,000 dead or missing and presumed dead in 2008 - five years ago.

The death toll is expected to increase but not to the catastrophic levels seen in 2008.

The USGS said "significant" casualties were likely and that "extensive damage is probable and disaster is likely widespread".

The tremors were felt as far as the megacity of Chongqing, home to around 30 million people, several hundred kilometers to the east.
