Murali is happy he is in Gayle’s side!

By S.H.Moulana - Riyadh

I recall my letter which was published in ‘The Island’ of 11 May 2012, captioned ‘Chris Gayle batting, wear your helmets!’, after he injured one of his young fans, who ended up in a hospital with a broken nose.

This Windies’ star batsman, Chris Gayle has started scoring sixes from where he left during the last IPL.
On Tuesday, playing for his side Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in Bangalore he scored 17 sixes and 13 fours in his innings.

He faced just 30 balls for his hurricane century. He ended up his innings with an unbeaten 175. By this he created new T/20 records for fastest century as well as for the number of sixes by an individual in a match.

Watching the match was Sri Lankan world record holder for most number of Test wickets, Muthiah Muralitharan.

When he was asked, ‘what was his reaction to Gayle’s innings?’, he said ‘I am happy, I am in the same side as Chris!’ Man of the Match Gayle, did not rest after his record breaking show with the bat like many other players would do but bowled just one over to capture 2 wickets, conceding only 5 runs.

At the end of his explosive innings the commentator asked him what he had for his breakfast, for which the smiling Chris said ‘Just two pancakes!’

The commentator quipped ‘If just two pancakes could do such a severe damaged to an opposing side what would be the outcome if you have taken four pancakes?’ There was a thundering laughter from the spectators!

I would like to repeat my warning to spectators by saying ‘When Chris Gayle is batting, please don’t forget to wear your helmets!’ Enjoy your cricket but think about your safety too!
