President presided over discussion on the development of Dambulla sacred area

Colombo, 01 May, (Asiantribune.com):

A Discussion was held about the implementation of Dambulla Sacred Area Development Plan, presided over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on Monday evening at the Temple Trees.

At this discussion the President has instructed the relevant officials to expedite development activities in the Dambulla Sacred area while preserving the archaeological values.

The President also emphasised the importance of compensating the residents whose lands have been taken over for such development activities and also providing them with suitable alternate lands. The Chief Incumbent of Rangiri Dambulu Viharaya Venerable Inamaluwe Sumangala Thero who was present at the discussion said that since declaration of the Viharaya as a World Heritage Site, large number of foreign visitors from various countries are visiting the temple.

Deputy Minister of Buddha Sasana & Religious Affairs M.K.A.D.S.Gunawardena, Deputy Minister Nandimitra Ekanayake, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretaries of the relevant Ministries, Representatives of the Departments of Archaeology and National Physical Planning were present at the discussion.
