Major General Trond Furuhovde, former truce monitor, passes away

Oslo, 12 May ( Head of Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Major General Trond Furuhovde, passes away

Major General Trond Furuhovde, who played an important role in the Sri Lankan peace process, died on Wednesday, 10 May.

Minister of International Development Erik Solheim. Said: “He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts go to his family. Major General Furuhovde made an extremely important contribution to the Sri Lankan peace process as Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM). But above all we will miss him as a man who has enriched us with his wisdom and vision.”

He first served as Head of the SLMM, the civilian mission monitoring the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement, for two terms, and later as an independent adviser for the ministry on military issues related to the peace process.
